What’s ahead for OPN Members? Spring 2025 Update

Oregon Pasture Network has been busy – in the office AND in the pasture! – planning fun and engaging opportunities for OPN Members for the remainder of 2025. We take pride in providing OPN Members  promoting their humane, ecologically-sound practices with valuable education, state-wide community building and networking, and having fun while we are at it!

These events are based on feedback and suggestions we have received from our membership. Some of the activities below are available exclusively to OPN Members, while some are open to the public.

State-wide Pasture Walks

Oregon Pasture Network Members' pasture walk featuring pasture-based chickens

These casual walks on the farms of OPN Members are a great way to see “practices in action”, learn how other producers operate, and connect with your pasture peers! We find these hand-on learning opportunities to be more effective and engaging than simply watching a video or conference presentation. We will be scheduling several walks through the state to showcase a variety of pasture-based systems and strengthen our network connections.

OPN Member Book Club

If you’re like us, you have intentions to read for relaxation and expanding your knowledge, but sometimes reality gets in the way. Being part of a group always helps with motivation. Together, we will cross books off our reading list, meet to discuss them, and meet other like-minded folks! The first book we are reading is Dirt to Soil by Gabe Brown.

Interested in joining? Book club information can be found in the latest OPN Member newsletter.

OPN Mentorship Program

This valuable program matches an early-career farmer or rancher with an experienced producer for personalized guidance and tricks of the trade.

Applications to apply for both mentors and mentees are currently open!

Willamette Valley Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative cohort

OPN received funding through the Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative to build a cohort of pasture-based producers for collaborative peer-based learning and from selected outside experts. Initially, the cohort will likely focus on improving farm business practices and profitability.

This program is currently in development with details released soon!

OPN Online Class Series

A favorite among OPN Members and non-members alike, our online class series will be back in Fall 2025! Topics planned may include: pasture management, animal husbandry, business and profitability, and silvopasture.

These classes are open to the public, with OPN Members receiving access at a discounted price.

OSU Extension Small Farms School

OPN continues to be an active participant in workshop planning for the 2025 OSU Extension Small Farms School, taking place September 10th at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. Sessions planned include: pastured egg production, electric fencing 101, animal handling strategies, hay selection, pasture renovation, and marketing.

OPN in Central Oregon

As our network expands, OPN is making efforts to directly engage with producers across the state. In 2025 and 2026, OPN has funding to complete targeted work in Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties.

We are currently planning – stay tuned for announcements coming soon!
