Rock Creek Ranch is a small, family operated ranch located in the Sam’s Valley just outside of Medford Oregon. We grow pasture raised heritage lamb, with a strong commitment to the health and welfare of our flocks and land. We have long been involved in the slow food movement and supplying clean, wholesome meat to our local market, while providing our animals with an excellent quality of life, is our top priority. Because we practice dry land ranching, we have selected a breed of sheep that thrive in arid climate and flourish on non-irrigated pasture and browse. In an effort to preserve an irreplaceable piece of the earth’s biodiversity, we keep a herd of registered Saint Croix hair sheep, considered a threatened species by the Livestock Conservancy.

Production Practices

We use rotational grazing practices and our pastures are maintained without the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. Our lambs live their entire lives on our ranch and are grown without grains, GMO feed, antibiotics, hormones or other drugs. We interact with our animals daily and treat them with kindness and respect. Lambs are harvested on our ranch then transported to local butchers for custom cut and wrap.

Grazing, Pasture and Nutrient Management Practices

We raise a limited number of animals on our small acreage, ensuring that our pastures and browse areas can support healthy soils and animals. We hand clear noxious weeds twice a year and use certified organic fertilizers and soil amendments to condition our soils. We are in the process of re-working our non-irrigated pastures with dryland pasture mix and intend to replant a portion of our land every year.

Environmental Conservation

We use livestock guardian dogs to deter predation from mountain lion, coyote and bear. We are taking steps to restore our oak savanna habitat, promoting a healthy environment for a multitude of Oregon’s native birds.
